Supporting the Ethiopian Community in Israel

Since its independence, the state of Israel has integrated many different cultures within its society. Among them, is the Ethiopian community which has seen much growth over the past few decades, and unfortunately also many hardships. At Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, we recognize the many different challenges faced by this community in Israel. We strive to provide direct support to improve this transition and allow for an easier integration.

Extending Our Support to the Ethiopian Community

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit is offering further support for Ethiopian families, with the distribution of food baskets. We recognize the financial challenges many of these families face and the hardships they endure as they assimilate into Israeli society. This initiative provides an additional 50 families each week in Neve Yaakov with food baskets that help them meet their basic needs. Our baskets are often lifelines for many families struggling to make ends meet.

The food baskets include a variety of items that are designed to meet the nutritional preferences and needs of the Ethiopian community, allowing them to maintain their unique cultural traditions. We strive to offer respect for their heritage and create the support they need.

A Safe Space for Ethiopian Children

Yad Ezra V’Shulamit has initiated an Ethiopian camp in Neve Yaakov that provides 117 children with a safe and nurturing space during the summer months. They will have the unique opportunity to join a structured program that includes exciting and interactive activities. The camp also offers fun excursions so they can experience adventure and enjoy a variety of nutritious meals.

The camp is also committed to providing opportunities for these children to grow and learn. We have a group of professional teachers who provide tutoring for the children, helping them overcome educational challenges and prepare for the upcoming school year. Our staff recognizes the importance of having the right tools, therefore, each child is equipped with the necessary school supplies so they can learn efficiently.

A Community Effort

As Ethiopian immigrants gradually adjust to Israeli society, it is important for them to feel community support, respect, and empathy to ensure a successful integration. We understand the significance of acknowledging their unique cultural background and experiences. A collective effort supported by the Jewish community can help them thrive in Israeli society.
