The Heart of Giving: Supporting Yad Ezra V’Shulamit

Apr 20, 2025

The act of giving charity is deeply rooted in many cultures. In Jewish tradition, there is a practice of giving one-tenth (10%) of one’s earnings to those in need. This is known as ma’aser and is done regularly. The Torah teaches generosity, and those who embrace this mitzvah will ultimately prosper. At Yad Ezra V’Shulamit, we witness the power of giving every day as we provide essential resources to thousands of families struggling to make ends meet.

A Special Time for Giving

While charitable giving is a constant mitzvah (good deed), there are times throughout the year when the need is especially great. Holidays are meant to be moments of joy, reflection, and togetherness. Yet for many struggling families, they can be a source of stress and hardship. That’s why Yad Ezra V’Shulamit launched its recent Passover campaign—an effort to ensure that no one has to choose between celebrating a beloved holiday and putting food on the table.

Through the generosity of our supporters, we aim to send 62,241 baskets full of food and/or grocery vouchers for the holiday, allowing those in need to observe Passover with dignity and joy. These one-time donations are crucial and deeply appreciated. However, the need does not end when the holiday is over. There is a continuous demand for assistance, and that’s where regular giving makes an even greater impact.

Giving Beyond the Holidays

One of the most significant ways that ongoing support helps is through our children’s centers, where young lives are being transformed every single day. These centers provide far more than just a meal—they are safe havens where children receive academic assistance, emotional support, and opportunities for personal growth.

Our centers feature bright, inviting dining areas where children can enjoy nutritious meals in a warm, welcoming environment. Homework help is provided in modern, well-equipped classrooms, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed academically. These elements create a stable foundation for children who might otherwise face tremendous adversity.

The Power of Regular Giving

Giving is not just about helping others—it enriches our own lives in profound ways. When we commit to regular giving, we cultivate a sense of purpose, gratitude, and connection to those around us. Knowing that we are making a consistent impact brings fulfillment and meaning to our daily lives. It reminds us of our shared humanity and strengthens our values of kindness and responsibility. Most importantly, it allows us to be a continuous source of hope and support for those who need it most.

The Impact of Your Support

Your generosity makes all of this possible. Whether through a one-time donation for a holiday campaign or an ongoing commitment to ma’aser, every contribution helps us feed the hungry, support children’s education, and provide hope to families in need.

Join us in our mission—because no one should have to struggle for food and basic essentials. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for Israel’s most vulnerable children and families.
